Why does our sign read Black Lives Matter?

In the past few years, multiple disturbing events involving people of color, particularly unarmed black men, have brought to focus the need to address racial bias and institutional racism for the overall health and safety of all citizens. This is not to say that black lives matter more or are the only lives that are important.

It is to say that in order to come to a more just and equitable society, where all lives matter, it is now time to make visible the struggles and worthiness of Black Lives as part of the tapestry of our communities so that we may create a society that upholds us all.
